Package forwarding to the UK
There is no VAT-free threshold into the UK. What £135 decides is duty relief and who collects the VAT — not whether you pay it.

What people get wrong about importing into the UK
People think £135 is a tax-free allowance
It is not. Import VAT at 20% applies from the first pound. The £135 line is about customs duty relief and about who collects the VAT — the seller below it, the carrier above it.
Plenty of EU shops stopped delivering here
After Brexit a long tail of European retailers simply switched the UK off rather than register for UK VAT. Their catalogues did not get worse; they just stopped having a UK checkout.
Buying from three countries means three shipments
An EU order, a US order and a Chinese order each carry their own freight. Combining them into one shipment is the lever, and it is the one most people never use.

What a parcel into the UK actually pays (2026)
The single most common misunderstanding about importing into the UK is that £135 is a tax-free allowance. It is not. Import VAT at the standard 20% applies from the first pound of value; there is no VAT-free threshold for goods you buy, only a small relief for genuine gifts up to £39.
What £135 actually decides is two things. First, customs duty: consignments at or below £135 are relieved of customs duty, and above it duty applies according to the classification of the goods. Second, who collects the VAT: at or below £135 the overseas seller is expected to charge UK VAT at the point of sale, and above it the VAT is collected at the border by the carrier, usually alongside a handling fee.
That second point is the one that matters when you use a forwarding address, because the shop you buy from is selling to an address in its own country and is not charging UK VAT. The VAT is therefore settled on entry. That is not a penalty — it is the same 20% either way — but it does mean the price you see at the shop is not the price you end up paying, and it is worth planning for rather than discovering.
| Item | Rule (2026) |
|---|---|
| Import VAT | 20% from the first pound — there is no VAT-free threshold |
| Gift relief | Genuine gifts up to £39 |
| Consignment at or below £135 | Relieved of customs duty |
| Above £135 | Customs duty applies by classification |
| Who collects the VAT | Seller at or below £135; carrier above, usually with a handling fee |

Thousands of global shoppers trust Resendify
From fashion to car parts, from luxury to electronics — global shoppers use Resendify to buy from Europe without limits.
“Finally a service that actually works for buying from Spanish stores. I ordered from Zara España, MANGO and El Corte Inglés in the same week — everything arrived consolidated in one box. Shipping to LA was way cheaper than I expected.”
“I bought a MediaMarkt laptop that wasn't available in Canada at that price. The process was seamless — got my European address, placed the order, and Resendify handled everything from there. Will definitely use again.”
“Been sourcing European car parts for years. Resendify is the best forwarding service I've used for Europe-to-India shipments. The consolidation feature saved me hundreds on a single order.”
“Bought from a French boutique that doesn't ship to Australia. Got my Resendify address in minutes, placed the order, and it was on my doorstep in Sydney two weeks later. Exactly as advertised.”
“I source from 4–5 European suppliers every month. Resendify consolidates everything before it hits the US, which cuts my per-unit shipping cost significantly. The quote tool is accurate and the team is responsive.”
“Found a Zalando deal that was EU-only. Used Resendify, got the item shipped to Dubai without any issues. The customs documentation was all handled — that's the part I usually dread.”
Forwarding packages to the UK
No, and this is the most expensive misunderstanding in UK importing. Import VAT at 20% applies from the first pound. £135 decides customs duty relief and who collects the VAT, not whether VAT is due.
Because you bought from a shop delivering to an address in its own country, so it charged its local VAT rules rather than UK VAT. The UK import VAT is then settled on entry, usually by the carrier along with a handling fee.
Only above £135, and then according to how the goods are classified. Below that the consignment is relieved of duty — but the VAT is still due.
It does when the shop has no UK checkout at all, when the catalogue is genuinely different, or when you are combining several countries' orders into one shipment. What it does not do is avoid VAT, and we would rather say so.
