Argentina's courier regime after Decreto 604/2026
Argentina rewrote this in 2026 and the change is large enough that most of what is written online is now wrong. Decreto 604/2026 unified the two regimes that used to exist — the designated postal operator's door-to-door service and the courier companies — into a single set of rules, and Resolución General 5884/2026 from ARCA set out the procedure.
The headline is the allowance: **US$400 per shipment, five shipments per year**, which is roughly US$2,000 of duty-free room annually. Inside that allowance you pay 21% VAT and nothing else — the flat 50% postal tariff that used to sit on top was repealed by the same decree, along with import duties within the allowance. Above US$400 FOB, the excess is treated under the general regime: the import duty corresponding to the goods' tariff heading, plus the statistical fee.
There are limits worth knowing before you plan a big purchase. A single shipment cannot exceed US$3,000. Courier shipments are capped at 50 kg, and the postal route at 20 kg.
