How to actually buy on Taobao from Latin America
Taobao is the largest consumer marketplace in China and Tmall is its brand-store sibling, where official flagship shops sell. Between them they carry hundreds of millions of listings — fashion, hobby, electronics, home, components, cosplay, model kits, anything — at prices that no local importer can match, because you are buying at the point the local importer buys.
The catch is that both are built for buyers who are already in China. The overwhelming majority of sellers quote domestic shipping only, the interface is in Chinese, and the payment rails assume Alipay or WeChat Pay. That is not a policy you can argue with at checkout; it is how the platform is put together. A receiving address in China is what turns a domestic-only listing into something you can have.
The workflow, then: open a free account, take your Chinese warehouse address, browse Taobao with a browser translation extension, and enter that address as the delivery address. Each seller ships to the warehouse domestically — the cheap, fast leg. When your orders land we hold them together and forward the lot as one international shipment, which matters enormously here because Taobao hauls are almost always many small parcels from many different sellers.
Two honest cautions. Quality varies seller by seller far more than on a Western retail site, so read the ratings and the buyer photos rather than the product photos. And listings are written for the Chinese market: sizing runs small by European or American standards, and manuals, plugs and voltages are Chinese-market by default.

Chile removed the US$41 exemption — what that means for you (2026)
If you last bought from abroad a couple of years ago, the rules you remember are gone. Until October 2025 an international purchase under US$41 entered Chile free of IVA and duty, and more than nine out of ten parcels arriving in the country used that band. On 25 October 2025 the exemption was eliminated. Today every international purchase is subject to 19% IVA, whatever it cost.
How that IVA reaches you depends on where you bought. For purchases up to US$500 on platforms registered with the Servicio de Impuestos Internos, the platform charges the 19% at checkout and the parcel is not charged again at the border.
Whether the shop you are buying from is on that register is worth checking before you order: if it is, the 19% appears at checkout; if it is not, the tax is settled when the shipment enters the country instead. Neither route is cheaper than the other — what changes is when you pay and who collects it, and being surprised at the door is the part worth avoiding.
Above US$500 the shipment leaves the simplified treatment and clears normally, where ad valorem duty can apply on top of IVA. Chile has trade agreements with the European Union, the United States, China and Turkey, among others, and their tariff preferences can reduce that duty when the origin of the goods is properly evidenced — a question decided at clearance, on the documentation that travels with the shipment.

Buying from Taobao and Tmall and shipping to Chile
No. The overwhelming majority of Taobao and Tmall sellers quote domestic Chinese shipping only, so the listings do not ship to Chile. You can still buy there with a receiving address in the store's own country: we take delivery, hold your parcels while you finish shopping, and forward them to you.
No, but you need a translation extension in your browser. The listings, the filters and the seller messages are all in Chinese, and machine translation handles them well enough to shop. Product measurements are usually given in centimetres, which travels across languages better than sizes do.
That is the part to sort out before you fill a cart, because payment is the real friction on Taobao rather than the address. Check which methods your account can use before you commit to a large order.
Because a Taobao order is almost never one parcel. Buying from eight sellers means eight domestic deliveries to the warehouse, and forwarding them as one shipment is the difference between viable and absurd.
Assume they run small against EU and US charts. Ignore the letter size and use the centimetre measurements in the listing against a garment you already own — that is the single most useful habit for buying Chinese fashion.

Because AliExpress is registered with the SII, and for purchases up to US$500 registered platforms collect the 19% at the point of sale. European stores generally are not registered, so the IVA on those purchases is settled when the shipment enters Chile instead.
It does not touch IVA, which is due either way. What the agreement can affect is customs duty on shipments that clear ordinarily, and only when origin is properly evidenced at clearance.
