What stops perfume going to the US
The shop says yes and the carrier says no
Plenty of Spanish perfumeries ship happily within Spain, but sending a flammable liquid abroad is a different matter. The “no” usually arrives after you have paid.
Postal mail is not an option
As a conservative rule, international post does not accept dangerous goods. Perfume is the textbook case that stays out, which is why so many parcels end up held or returned.
No data sheet, no shipment
It is the document that makes classification possible. Nobody asks you for it when you buy, so almost nobody has it — and it is exactly what blocks the shipment once it is too late.

This is the lane where the air question bites hardest, simply because almost everything crossing the Atlantic flies. There is no road alternative, so whether your fragrance can go depends entirely on how that product is classified and which operators will take it.
That is why we check before you buy rather than after. Sending you a quote for a shipment that will be refused at the counter helps nobody.
The customs side is a separate matter from the dangerous goods side, and it is worth reading on its own.

Why your perfume counts as “dangerous goods”
It is not a bureaucratic label: a perfume is alcohol in a bottle, and alcohol burns. That is why international rules classify it as Class 3, flammable liquid, alongside colognes, nail polish and solvents.
Two things decide whether your shipment is regulated: the flash point of the liquid and how much of it you send. One 50 ml bottle and a box of twenty are not the same shipment to an air carrier.
The practical consequence arrives sooner than people expect. International postal mail does not accept dangerous goods except in very limited cases, so perfume is usually ruled out from the start. Aerosols and pressurised sprays travel under a different heading, Class 2, and are accepted even more narrowly.
- Class 3 — perfumes, colognes, alcohol, nail polish and solvents: flammable liquids.
- Class 2 — aerosols, sprays and pressurised deodorants: more restricted, especially by air.
- Cosmetics with no alcohol and no pressure (creams, serums, cream make-up) are normally NOT dangerous goods and travel as ordinary cosmetics.
- “Water-based” does not guarantee it falls outside the rules. The product's safety data sheet is what decides.

The extra process, stated plainly
Before the cargo can travel it needs a specific check: inspection, repacking in approved packaging, and relabelling. That is dangerous goods handling, and it is a step that simply does not exist in a normal shipment.
It costs **from €120**. That is a floor, not a closed price: the final amount depends on the quantity of cargo, the number of packages and the weight, and the team confirms it once they see your actual shipment.
It adds **at least 5 working days of processing** before the parcel can leave. Do not read that as the total time: those days are added to the route's normal transit, not the time until it arrives. We do not promise delivery dates, here or on any other shipment.
And one part depends on you: the paperwork. Without a technical data sheet there is no classification, and without classification there is no shipment.

- Missing paperwork does not slow a shipment “a little”: it is not accepted, or it waits until the document arrives.
Can it go by air?
The honest answer is “it depends, and it has to be checked first”. Air transport is the most restrictive mode there is, and for one specific product to one specific destination there are only four possible answers: forbidden, allowed on passenger aircraft, cargo aircraft only, or subject to prior approval.
Which of the four applies to you depends on the product, the quantity, the destination and the operator. That is why you will not find the sentence “yes, your perfume flies” on this page: it would be a lie until somebody looks at your case.
What we can tell you is that we know how to run that check before you buy, which is when it is actually worth something.
- Air: the most restrictive mode. Confirmed case by case, never assumed.
- Road (ADR): allows limited quantities with approved packaging, marking, documentation and segregation.
- International postal mail: as a conservative rule, dangerous goods are prohibited. Perfume is the textbook case that does not get in.
