Returned Goods Relief, in plain terms
HMRC's guidance on re-importing goods explains Returned Goods Relief. Goods exported from the UK can come back with relief from import duty when they return within three years and in the same state they left. They must also have been in free circulation in the UK when they were exported.
VAT relief has one more condition: the person importing the goods must be the same person who exported them. The claim is made on the import declaration, with the export reference, so the export evidence is what makes it possible.
The honest caveat is about where the stock came from. A lot of EU marketplace stock never passed through the UK: it went straight from the factory to European fulfilment centres. For those goods, bringing returns into Britain is a normal import, and relief does not apply.

From EU returns to one UK import
Your EU returns come through Amazon.es, Amazon.it, Amazon.de and Amazon.fr, Zalando, eBay or your own shop. Each lands at a local EU address, is checked in and photographed, and waits for your decision.
Sellable units can be prepared to go back into an Amazon fulfilment centre in Europe instead of crossing the Channel twice. What should come home is consolidated and repacked — optional services, priced per plan — into boxes or a pallet.
One consolidated shipment means one EU export and one UK import. Small parcels under €1,000 follow simplified EU export formalities; a larger shipment needs a formal export declaration, supported by the commercial invoice and packing list. The fewer customs events, the fewer chances for a return to cost more than it is worth.

That check covers what you need first: does the content match what you sold, and is there visible damage. An in-depth inspection is available when you want it, as an optional service with its own fee.
The returns then wait for you. Each plan includes free storage days; the official limit is 30 days, after which a daily fee applies, and it can be extended case by case.

EU returns back to the UK: what sellers ask
They can, under Returned Goods Relief, when they come back within three years, in the same state, and were in free circulation in the UK when exported. VAT relief also needs the importer to be the same person who exported them. Goods that never left the UK — shipped from a factory straight to EU fulfilment centres — do not qualify.
If you ship merchant-fulfilled orders from the UK, yes: to those stores you are an international seller. Amazon's rule asks for a return address in Spain or Italy, or a returnless refund, for items up to €25 including VAT.
Yes, for the other direction. Our UK warehouse can receive returns from Amazon.co.uk and UK shops for sellers based elsewhere. For a UK seller's EU returns, the addresses that matter are the EU ones.
Not for customer returns: with FBA, Amazon takes them back into its own fulfilment centres. You need an address for what Amazon sends out — removal orders of unsellable, aged or excess stock. Amazon's European removal fees are built around European addresses, so a seller whose warehouse is outside Europe needs one here. Merchant-fulfilled (FBM) sellers need both: returns come straight to the seller.

The pieces are the plan, the optional services you use (inspection, consolidation, repacking, extended storage, destruction) and the outbound shipment, which you can price in the calculator on this page. Recurring volume goes on the Business plan, which is quote-based: send the form and a person replies.
It is received anyway. Parcels that arrive without being created in your panel are booked in manually by our team, with a small surcharge. The cheap way is to create the expected return in advance — the tracking number from the marketplace's return request is enough.
