The problem

Why Colombians cannot order from Home Depot directly

🇺🇸

homedepot.com does not ship internationally

There is no international delivery option at checkout, so from outside the United States the catalogue is closed without a US receiving address.

⚖️

Most of the store should never fly

A hardware store is built around heavy, cheap-per-kilo goods. Knowing which quarter of the catalogue is worth air freight is what separates a good order from an expensive lesson.

🔌

120 V / 60 Hz is a real constraint

Corded tools and anything with a motor are built for the US grid. Cordless bodies and chargers are often fine; the rest usually is not.

Stop reading "we don't ship to your country".

A real local address at checkout is all that stands between you and that cart.

What is worth forwarding from Home Depot, and what absolutely is not

Home Depot is where the United States buys tools, hardware, fixtures and building materials, and the catalogue depth on power tools alone — Milwaukee, Ryobi, DeWalt, Ridgid, Husky, plus house brands — is something most countries simply do not have on a shelf. homedepot.com does not offer international shipping, so from outside the country there is no way in without a US address.

Before anything else, two warnings that will save you more money than any deal on the site. The first is weight: this is a store built around things that are heavy and cheap per kilo, which is the worst possible profile for air freight.

Lumber, cement, tile, paint, appliances, garden equipment — none of that should fly, and we will say so rather than quote it and let you find out. The second is electrical: US mains run at 120 V and 60 Hz.

Corded power tools, wet/dry vacuums, compressors and anything with a motor built for that supply will not run properly on a 220 V grid, and a transformer big enough for a motor is rarely worth its own weight.

What does travel well is the dense, light, high-value half of the store: cordless tool bodies and batteries (check the charger's input rating — many are 100–240 V), hand tools, drill and driver bits, measuring and layout tools, hardware and fasteners, plumbing fittings, smart-home devices, and specialty items with no local equivalent. That is a genuinely good basket, and it is the one worth consolidating.

One practical note on policy: US retailers' rules about deliveries to freight forwarders vary and change. We can give you a real US receiving address and forward whatever arrives at it, but check the store's current terms before you place a large order — that decision, and the risk that comes with it, is yours.

For Colombia, the DIAN states that shipments do not pay VAT when the goods come from a country with a free-trade agreement and have no commercial purpose, and the US–Colombia agreement has been in force since 2012. What counts is where the goods were made, and whether a shipment qualifies is decided at clearance.

CategoryWorth forwarding?
Cordless tool bodies, batteries, bits, hand toolsYes — dense, light, high value per kilo
Hardware, fasteners, plumbing fittingsYes — small and hard to source locally
Smart-home devices and electronicsUsually — check the plate reads 100–240 V
Corded tools, compressors, wet/dry vacuumsNo — motors built for 120 V / 60 Hz
Appliances, garden equipmentNo — heavy, and wrong voltage
Lumber, cement, tile, paintNo — this is what sea freight and pallets are for

What the DIAN actually charges on a parcel to Colombia (2026)

Two numbers decide what a parcel pays in Colombia, and most guides mix them up. The DIAN's own page for tráfico postal y envíos urgentes puts the tributos aduaneros at a 10% customs duty on the FOB value — freight and insurance included — plus 19% IVA. Everything after that is exemptions on top.

On duty, the DIAN states that a shipment whose FOB value is US$200 or less does not pay the customs duty. On IVA there are two separate reliefs, and the first is the one that matters for a European purchase: the DIAN states that these shipments do not pay IVA when they come from countries with a free-trade agreement with Colombia and have no commercial purpose.

Colombia's agreement with the European Union has been in force since 2013 and its agreement with the United States since 2012; it has no such agreement with China or Turkey. Note that what counts is where the goods originate, not where you happened to buy them.

The second relief is temporary: Decreto Legislativo 1474 of 19 December 2025 excludes IVA on shipments worth no more than US$50, and the DIAN has confirmed that this one runs only from 1 January to 31 December 2026. That is what replaced the US$200 IVA figure people still repeat.

What none of this settles is your particular parcel. Whether a shipment counts as non-commercial, and whether its origin is evidenced to the satisfaction of the officer clearing it, is decided at clearance and not before. Read the rules above as the framework, check them against the DIAN page linked below before a large purchase, and be sceptical of anyone who guarantees you an exact final figure.

The old US$200 IVA figureReplaced by the US$50 exclusion, and only for 2026

Last updated: September 2026. Informational only — not customs or tax advice. The US$50 IVA exclusion is written for the 2026 calendar year, and the relief for shipments from FTA countries depends on the shipment having no commercial purpose and on origin being evidenced at clearance. FAQ

Buying from Home Depot and shipping to Colombia

No. homedepot.com does not offer international shipping, so it does not deliver to Colombia. You can still buy there with a receiving address in the store's own country: we take delivery, hold your parcels while you finish shopping, and forward them to you.

No. homedepot.com does not offer international shipping, so there is no delivery option to your country at checkout. A US receiving address is what gives you access to the catalogue.

Cordless tool bodies and batteries are fine; check the charger, which is often rated 100–240 V. Corded tools, compressors and wet/dry vacuums are built for 120 V at 60 Hz and generally will not run properly on a 220 V grid.

By air, almost never — lumber, tile, cement and paint are heavy and cheap per kilo, which is the profile that makes freight brutal. If you are supplying a project, talk to us about pallets and sea freight instead; that is a different and much better calculation.

US retailers' policies on deliveries to freight forwarders vary and change, so check the store's current terms before a large order. We can give you a real US receiving address and forward what arrives at it; the decision to use it, and the risk that comes with it, is yours.

US$200 is still the duty threshold: the DIAN states that a shipment with an FOB value of US$200 or less does not pay the 10% customs duty. What moved is the IVA side — Decreto Legislativo 1474 of December 2025 set the IVA exclusion at US$50, and the DIAN has confirmed it applies only during the 2026 calendar year.

It depends on the values. Consolidating is almost always cheaper on freight, but it raises the FOB value of a single shipment, which is exactly what the US$200 duty threshold looks at. Ask us before you buy and we will price both options so you can compare them.

The DIAN's IVA relief for shipments from FTA countries is written for shipments with no commercial purpose. If you are importing to resell, that is a formal import with its own requirements — talk to us and to a customs agent before ordering, not after the goods are in the air.
