Why CINQUE Germany

What Canadian buyers get from cinque.de

CINQUE was founded in 1984 to bring relaxed Italian style north, and since the late '80s its head office and in-house prototype atelier have sat in Mönchengladbach, Germany — a family business of around 200 people producing small, careful runs. The signature is the modular suit: jackets (typically €230–300) and trousers (around €100–150) sold as separate sizes, so a 52 jacket over 50 trousers is a normal basket, not a tailoring bill. Around it: the 9 TO 5 mix-and-match business capsule for men and women, Italian-leaning coats, knitwear, and womenswear from blazers to dresses. CINQUE has no Canadian store, and buying direct costs €60 flat shipping per order — a German forwarding address is the smarter way in. Shipping time from Europe to Canada depends on the carrier and service level you choose. Resendify handles customs declarations and provides door-to-door tracking for all Canadian provinces.

What to actually buy on cinque.de

Start with the thing CINQUE does that almost nobody else does: the modular suit. Jackets and trousers are sold as separate pieces in separate sizes — typically €230–300 for the jacket and €100–150 for the trousers — so a 52 jacket over 50 trousers is a normal order, not an alterations bill. The 9 TO 5 programme extends it into a mix-and-match business capsule for men and women that interlocks across seasons, which is exactly what makes repeat orders to one German address worthwhile. Womenswear covers blazers, blouses, dresses, skirts and Italian-leaning coats; menswear adds shirts (from about €60, typically €90–100), knitwear and summer tailoring. Everything is in EUR with 19% German VAT included, and the men's and women's sale sections cut past-season tailoring hard — a strong moment to buy, since Canadian multi-brand retail rarely carries the label at all. Build the wardrobe over a few orders, let it gather at your German address, and quote the consolidated box before you ship.

  • Modular suit jackets — typically €230–300, sold separately from the trousers so the shoulders actually fit
  • Modular suit trousers — around €100–150, pick waist and length independently of the jacket
  • 9 TO 5 business capsule — interlocking office pieces for men and women, built for repeat orders
  • Women's blazers, blouses, dresses and coats — the Italian-leaning side of the catalog
  • Shirts from about €60 (typically €90–100) and seasonal knitwear to round out a consolidated box
  • Sale sections (men and women) — past-season tailoring at EUR markdowns

The problem

CINQUE ships to Canada — but the direct route adds up. Here's the smarter way.

💸

€60 flat shipping on every order

Cinque.de charges Canada a €60 flat rate per order — a blazer in March and trousers in April means €120 in shipping alone. Within Germany, CINQUE ships free.

📦

One brand per box, no consolidation

Buying direct, CINQUE can only send you CINQUE. A German forwarding address lets you combine your suit with any other German or EU shop into one weight-based parcel and one customs entry.

🔁

Returns from Canada at your own cost

CINQUE's FAQ is explicit: international return shipping is the customer's responsibility, and there are no exchanges. A wrong size means paying your own way back to Germany.

CINQUE sizing for Canadian shoppers: German numbers, modular fit

CINQUE uses German sizing, and its modular system is the practical fix for the classic suit problem: jacket and trousers are separate products in separate sizes, so you never compromise one to fit the other. For menswear, German tailoring runs roughly 46–56 — subtract 10 for the US/Canadian suit size (a German 50 is about a 40R). Womenswear runs German 34–44; as a rule of thumb subtract 30 for the US/Canadian number, so a German 36 is roughly a 6 and a 38 roughly an 8 — but treat conversions as a starting point and check CINQUE's own size chart, which publishes real measurements. Because returning from Canada means paying international postage yourself with no exchanges offered, the smart routine is: measure a jacket and trousers that already fit, compare centimetres against the chart, and use the modular split to solve shoulders-versus-waist rather than hoping a single size does both jobs.

  • Modular advantage: order jacket and trousers in different sizes — a 52/50 split is a normal basket, not an alteration.
  • Men: German size − 10 ≈ US/CA suit size (German 50 ≈ 40R). Check the published measurements per piece.
  • Women: DE 34 ≈ US/CA 4, DE 36 ≈ 6, DE 38 ≈ 8, DE 40 ≈ 10 (approximate — verify on the chart).
  • Measure a garment that fits and compare centimetres — with international returns at your cost, that beats guessing.

Canada customs & import duty (EU → Canada), explained

Here is the honest version most forwarders won't tell you. For a parcel coming from the EU, Canada's de minimis is just CAD 20 — both duty and tax. Above that, GST/HST/PST applies to the entire value, not only the part over CAD 20. Watch out for the most common mistake online: the widely-quoted CAD 150 (duty) and CAD 40 (tax) thresholds are NOT for you. Those only apply to courier goods shipped from the US or Mexico under CUSMA, and they do not cover EU parcels — quoting them would badly understate what a Canadian actually pays. The consumption tax is 5% federal GST plus a provincial component, so combined roughly 5%-15% depending on the recipient's province (for example Alberta 5%, Ontario 13%, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador and PEI 15%). The carrier collects this on delivery (the courier CLVS program; Canada Post adds about CAD 9.95 in handling), though some merchants prepay it as DDP. One number to plan around: your EU store price already includes local EU VAT, and shipping through a forwarder to an EU address does not let a private shopper reclaim that VAT (a tourist refund needs a personal export with a customs stamp, which a forwarder can't do). So budget against the EU sticker price, not a tax-free one.

On duty, the good news is that EU-origin goods are 0% under CETA — but only if the EU seller includes a valid CETA origin declaration on the invoice. Without that declaration, standard MFN rates apply (clothing roughly 16-18%, footwear roughly 16-20%, leather roughly 8-11%), while cosmetics and most electronics are largely 0% either way. Because whether you pay 0% or full MFN hinges on a single line on the seller's invoice, a generic "X% on clothes" figure tells you very little about your actual bill. Rather than guess, we estimate your full landed cost — item value, plus shipping, plus estimated duty — before you ship, so you can plan with a realistic estimate. Create your free EU forwarding address, fill your cart at the EU store, and run it through our calculator for the real number before you commit.

Canadian taxes on EU parcels: the honest version

Let's clear up the myth first: the CAD $150 duty-free / $40 tax-free thresholds you see quoted everywhere apply only to courier parcels from the US or Mexico under CUSMA. Your CINQUE parcel comes from the EU, and for EU goods the Canadian de minimis is CAD $20 — above that, tax applies on the full value, not just the excess. Concretely: GST/HST of 5–15% depending on your province (Ontario 13%, BC 12%, Alberta 5%, the Atlantic provinces 14–15%), collected by the courier on delivery along with a handling fee. Duty is the variable part: under CETA, EU-origin clothing enters at 0% — but only when the invoice carries a CETA origin declaration; without it, MFN clothing duty runs roughly 16–18%. On the German side, cinque.de prices include 19% German VAT, and delivery to a German forwarding address is a domestic sale — that VAT stays in the price and no forwarder can reclaim it. No tax tricks here: the win is free German delivery, consolidation, and an estimate that uses the real EU-parcel rules before you commit.

Germany's 19% VAT is included in cinque.de prices and is not reclaimable via forwarding. Canada (EU-origin parcels): de minimis CAD $20; above it GST/HST 5–15% by province on the full value plus courier handling fee; duty 0% under CETA only with an origin declaration on the invoice, otherwise MFN clothing ~16–18%. The CAD $150/$40 CUSMA thresholds do not apply to EU parcels. Verified 28 Jul 2026 — rules change; check cbsa-asfc.gc.ca for current rules. Source: Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

What it costs to ship CINQUE from Germany to Canada

Here's the arithmetic that makes this route work. Buying direct, cinque.de charges Canada a €60 flat fee on every order — tolerable once, painful for a wardrobe built in stages. To a German address, CINQUE ships free. So the play is: send everything to your Resendify address, let us hold it free for up to 60 days, and pay one weight-based international leg instead of €60 per order. Tailoring is ideal forwarding cargo: a shirt is about 0.3 kg, trousers half a kilo, a blazer just under a kilo, a packed two-piece suit around 1.2–1.5 kg — flat, dense pieces that avoid the volumetric surcharges bulky outerwear attracts. The wool coat is the exception at 1.5–2 kg with more bulk. Couriers bill the higher of actual versus volumetric weight, so we pack tailoring flat and tight. One consolidated box also means one Canadian customs entry and one courier handling fee instead of several. Run your basket through the calculator above for a live price band before you check out.

  • Direct comparison: every cinque.de order to Canada pays €60 flat; consolidated orders share one weight-based leg — quote your exact basket to compare.
  • One box = one CBSA entry and one courier handling fee, instead of one per order.
  • 60 days of free storage — buy the suit now, add the sale coat next month, ship once.
CINQUE itemApprox. weight

Trousers0.5 kg
Knit sweater0.4–0.6 kg
Blazer / suit jacket0.8–1.0 kg
Two-piece suit (packed)1.2–1.5 kg
Wool coat1.5–2.0 kg

Weights are typical planning estimates only; couriers bill the higher of actual vs volumetric weight and the parcel cap is 30 kg. Canadian import taxes apply above CAD $20 (GST/HST 5–15% by province on the full value) and duty depends on documented origin; we estimate your landed cost before you ship. A real landed-cost example (CINQUE Germany → Canada)

Here is roughly what a CINQUE two-piece outfit costs delivered to an Ontario door in 2026. Treat it as an illustration, not a quote — your forwarding price comes from the calculator above, and we estimate duty and GST/HST for your actual parcel and province before it leaves Germany.

  • The duty line is the swing factor: with a CETA origin declaration on the invoice it drops to 0% — we flag which case applies in your estimate.
  • Remember the real threshold: CAD $20 for EU parcels, not the CAD $150 CUSMA figure most guides quote.
  • We put the full estimate — items, forwarding, GST/HST, any duty and fees — in front of you before you commit to ship.

CINQUE returns: 14 days — but international returns are on you

CINQUE's return terms are clear and worth reading before you buy. You have 14 days from receipt to send items back, refunds are processed within 14 days of the return arriving, and there are no exchanges — only refunds, so a size swap means a fresh order. Within Germany a prepaid label costs €6, deducted from the refund; international return shipping is explicitly the customer's responsibility. From Canada that means paying your own postage back to Germany and landing inside the window — rarely worth it for €120 trousers. So treat CINQUE orders as near-final and let the brand's own system work for you: the modular suit sells jacket and trousers in separate sizes, which removes the most common reason suits get returned, and the size chart publishes real measurements. Measure a jacket that fits, compare, order once. If something arrives visibly wrong or damaged at our warehouse, flag it through your dashboard while the parcel is still in Germany — options are always better before the box crosses the Atlantic.

  • Window: 14 days from receipt; refunds only, no exchanges — a size swap means reordering.
  • Within Germany returns use a €6 prepaid label; from Canada, return postage is entirely your cost.
  • Prevent returns: use the modular split (jacket and trousers sized separately) and CINQUE's published measurements.

Return terms reflect the cinque.de FAQ as checked on 28 Jul 2026 and can change; confirm current terms at cinque.de before ordering. Verified 28 Jul 2026 — rules change; check cinque.de for current rules. Source: CINQUE FAQ (returns).

FAQ

Buying from CINQUE Germany and shipping to Canada

Yes — cinque.de delivers to over 50 countries including Canada, at a €60 flat shipping rate per order. Where Resendify helps: CINQUE ships free to our German warehouse, you can bundle several orders (or several German shops) into one parcel, and we estimate duty, GST/HST and your full landed cost before you ship.

Three reasons. Consolidation: every direct order pays €60; bundled orders share one weight-based leg. Multi-store: we combine CINQUE with any other German or EU shop in the same box. Control: 60 days of free storage and a landed-cost estimate — Canadian taxes included — before anything flies. Cinque Germany Ship shoppers shipping to Canada frequently consolidate 2–4 orders to cut per-kg costs significantly.

Not to parcels from Europe. The CAD $150 duty / $40 tax thresholds apply only to courier shipments from the US or Mexico under CUSMA. For goods arriving from the EU, the de minimis is CAD $20 — above that, GST/HST applies on the full value. Most forwarding guides get this wrong; we build estimates on the real rule. Check cbsa-asfc.gc.ca.

Above CAD $20, you pay GST/HST of 5–15% depending on your province (Ontario 13%, Alberta 5%) on the full value, plus a courier handling fee. Duty on EU clothing is 0% under CETA — but only if the invoice carries a CETA origin declaration; without it, MFN clothing duty runs roughly 16–18%. We flag which case applies in your estimate; check cbsa-asfc.gc.ca for current rules.

German sizes: men's tailoring roughly 46–56 (a German 50 is about a Canadian/US 40 suit) and womenswear 34–44 (a German 38 is roughly a US/CA 8). The modular system sells jacket and trousers in separate sizes, which solves most fit problems up front. Check CINQUE's size chart before ordering.

CINQUE allows returns within 14 days of receipt, but international return shipping is your responsibility and there are no exchanges — only refunds. Treat orders as near-final: use the modular sizing and CINQUE's published measurements to get fit right the first time. Note that Cinque Germany Ship return windows typically start from your original purchase date, not from when your package arrives in Canada.
